B i o g r a p h y

Jaidyn Chong (he/they) is a professional composer and multidisciplinary musician based in Brisbane. Under the tutelage of Dr Erik Griswold, they graduated from QCGU in 2019 with a Bachelor of Music in Composition. Their works have been commissioned across by ensembles such as the Gold Coast Chamber Orchestra and Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and premiered in diverse locations across Australia, including in places such as the Tilde New Music Academy as well as at The Planting Festival. 

 

Recently, Jaidyn attended the prestigious Darmstadt Summer School 2021 and received lessons from esteemed composers such as Brian Ferneyhough, Malin Bång and Catherine Milliken; they are taking part in Hatched Home Academy (Ensemble Offspring) in 2022. They also regularly teach piano, Western music theory and composition from the young to the elderly. Jaidyn’s music is inspired by a plethora of stimuli, the most significant being the nature and the environment, the human dichotomy of hope and struggle, as well as the idea of a collective catharsis.

Qualifications:

  • B.Mus (Composition) (Griffith, 2019).

  • Grade 5 Theory (AMEB, 2017).

  • Grade 7 Piano Certification (ANZCA, 2015).

Awards: 

  • A.G. Francis Composition Award (Griffith, 2020).

  • Very Highly Commended - Queensland Music Teachers Association (QMTA) Composition Competition (2016).
